The castle was founded in the 9th Century, and while being one of the largest ancient castles in the world, it is a prominent symbol of Czech culture. This Gothic and Baroque style church is situated in Old Town Square and is famous for its two tall spires. The church has been the main house of worship for Old Town since before 1400. Some say this church inspired the castle of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. You won’t want to miss seeing the inside or outside of this beautiful building.
The Prague Castle complex is open daily from 06:00 – 22:00. Entrance to the castle grounds is free but many of its attractions keep different hours and charge a separate entrance fee. To avoid long queues at Prague Castle and save precious time, you should get a skip-the-line ticket or if you prefer book a guided tour with skip-the-line entry.
It enjoys an especially scenic setting, linking the Old Town and Mala Strana, with awesome views up the hill to Prague Castle. Try taking a trip across it on the tram – the charming old single carriage number 2 crosses it, as does the sleek modern 18 – to appreciate the view upstream to the Charles Bridge.

The Charles Bridge and Prague Castle on a stormy day. The towers at either end of the Bridge are great viewpoints. We recommend the Old Town Bridge Tower (Staromestska mostecka vez) over the Lesser Town Tower as you see more from there – the Bridge, Castle and Mala Strana in one direction and a few of those hundred spires in the other.
