Our latest road test candidate is the Skoda Fabia 1.2 MPi petrol which recently got a new engine and lower price tag. When Skoda introduced the Fabia in India in 2008, it was packed with features not many hatchbacks could boast of at that time. It had classy European looks, premium interiors, sedan-like space and a solid build quality. Half way to where I was going, engine management light, pulled over, switched off, checked the handbook and decided to abandon the trip and take it home. Just put a new Bosch Battery in it like 2 weeks ago, took it up to where I bought it, they tested it said it was fine. If only 4 volts is getting to the pump it probably won't work, but there are two different relays that supply this voltage at different times, one when driver's door is first opened, the other when engine ECU tells it to. Seems unlikely both have a problem. Please check the two fuses I've mentioned.
It is sealed in but leaks occur. Same with power steering. The "Seal" is just the top cap and they have a high and low level designed for top ups. The fact that its hard to reach is due o design. The brake fluid is too on my version, can be very difficult to see the levels, if not impossible.
No, you are wrong, chain related failures are rare on mk2 HTP engines and usually associated with extreme lack of regular oil/filter changes or wrong oil used. You are probably confusing this with 1.2 tsi engines (2010-2012) or very early Mk1 fabia engines (2000-2003) Should be plenty of good HTP engines to be had from accident write offs, but
Posted 1 October, 2017 (edited) The whirring/whining noise, which peaks around 2000 rpm is a characteristic of 3 cylinder htp engines. It comes from the counter rotating balancer shaft which is gear driven directly from the crankshaft. The balancer shaft has a hefty offset weight and is used to balance out vibrations that a 3 cylinder design
